With the generous financial support of the Goodfield Community Club and the Goodfield PTO, Goodfield Elementary was able to purchase 4 additional Promethean ActivBoards. Goodfield Elementary School Earns Academic Excellence Award

Goodfield Elementary has earned a 2011 Excellence Award for Exemplary Academic Performance on the Illinois Learning Standards.

To earn an Academic Excellence Award, the school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress in 2010 and 2011 as required by No Child Left Behind. Also, 90 percent of students must have met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for the three most recent school years.

Hats off to the faculty and students on all the hard work required to sustain academic excellence!

Jump Rope for Heart Assembly

The American Heart Association presented an assembly to students on Wednesday, February 1st, to kick off Jump Rope for Heart, which will be held on Thursday, February 23rd, and Friday, February 24th. There was also a jump rope-a-thon between the students, with Marisa Herrmann winning.

Pizza Party

Students who sold at least 10 tickets to the Spaghetti Supper were invited to a pizza party sponsored by the Goodfield Community Club. If they sold 25 or more tickets, they also got to throw a pie in Mr. Berardi's face. The students seemed to really enjoy that part.

Pajama Day

The 2nd grade class filled up their marble jar and was rewarded with a pajama day on Friday, January 27th. The class gets a marble for good behavior and once the jar is full, they get to pick their reward. They also got to watch 101 Dalmations since it was the 101st day of school.

An Afternoon of Travel

The students at Goodfield Elementary got to enjoy an afternoon of travel on Friday, January 20th. They each had a passport and rotated through stations to learn about 6 different countries. A huge thank you to each of the speakers who were able to share their travels with us. Good Choices Assembly

Goodfield Elementary School was invited, along with Congerville and Davenport Elementary Schools, to attend a Good Choices Assembly on Tuesday afternoon. This assembly was hosted by the Eureka High School Student Council. The students were able to meet the Eureka High School Boys' Basketball Team, Girls' Basketball Team, Pep Band, Cheerleaders and Student Council Exec Board. The event ended with a speech on how to make good choices. It was a fun afternoon and the students had a wonderful time.

The Congerville and Goodfield 1st grade classes combined their talents under the direction of teachers, Mrs. Baner and Mrs. Logue, to perform a Thanksgiving program for family and friends. Students recited poems, sang songs, and performed finger plays. After the program, the classes went to the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka where they gave another awesome performance. Then it was on to Hardees for lunch. Great job, 1st graders!

The Peoria Journal Star has reported that Goodfield Elementary School is among the TOP FIVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS for ISAT results in Central Illinois. This includes a ten-county area. Congerville Elementary School also made the top five list among elementary schools and Eureka High School made the top five list for high school PSAE results.

In this morning's Chicago Sun Times, it lists Goodfield Elementary School as #149 out of 2,192 schools, which puts our school in the 93rd percentile of all schools in the state.

On Friday, October 28th, Mrs. Mickna's 4th grade class held a pumpkin decorating contest. The students decorated their pumpkins at home and then brought them in for the voting. The entire school got to vote for their favorite pumpkin. The winners of this year's contest were:

Mrs. Arndt and her class carved a pumpkin on Thursday. The students counted out the seeds into groups of ten, and then added to see how many total seeds the pumpkin had. After the pumpkin was carved, Mrs. Arndt drew the name of a student to take the pumpkin home.

Goodfield Elementary School celebrated Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 17th thru October 21st. Mr. Lafferty planned a week full of fun activities. On Monday, students were to wear as much red as they could. They also enjoyed an assembly titled, "Be Tobacco Free", which was presented by Mad Science of St. Louis.

“The Robodogs of Greenville” was a Reader’s Theatre performed by Mrs. Bachman’s third grade class. The class split into three groups to perform for the other classes at Goodfield. I think we would all agree that while a Robodog would be helpful, we are glad to have real dogs!

Third grade recently studied the Solar System in Science. Each student made a model of the Solar System out of materials of their choice. They were very creative! Some materials used to make their Solar Systems included Rice Krispie treats, clay, LEGOS, cookie dough, and even cake with the planets made out of frosting! They all did a great job!

Third grade recently did a project in class targeting two skills they have been working on. The first was the skill of being persuasive to an audience in their writing. The second has been studying about people earning and spending money in Social Studies. To go along with the understanding of both of these topics the students came up with advertisements to share with the class. Their goal was to persuade the audience to want to buy their product. They did a great job!

Third and fourth grade readers from Lynette Bachman’s reading groups in Goodfield are participating in the “Going Bananas for Reading” contest. Each student works to earn bananas by earning level completion certificates in the Lexia and Reading Plus computer reading programs. They can also earn a banana by submitting 100 minutes of reading on a home reading log. Students are finding that it really pays to work on these programs and their reading at home as well as in school! The contest will run through May 10 and there will be many prizes, surprises and incentives along the way!
